When your child becomes a patient of Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali, you can trust that they are receiving the most up to date comprehensive pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, with an emphasis on how the mouth effects the whole body. Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali are committed to continually studying the current literature in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics and using that knowledge to help all their patients. Every check up consists of a full dental exam, which includes monitoring the growth and development of your child’s jaws, soft tissue and overall dental development. A child’s jaw and cranio-facial development is almost 90% complete by the time they are eight years of age. Being able to monitor their growth and development at their dental checks ups allow Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali to intervene early and correct orthodontic and jaw development issues early on. With this approach, they can significantly help prevent major orthodontic problems that can occur as your child/children become teenagers. Tongue-Tie or Lip-Tie
Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali are experienced in the diagnoses and treatment of mild to severe tongue-tie and/or lip-tie. The procedure is called a frenectomy. Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali have been performing frenectomy procedures for over 13 years. We do a full examination on each patient and determine that patient’s individual needs before giving the option of treatment. If treatment is recommended, we can perform the procedure the same day in most cases, especially because many of our patients drive from several hours away. We would be honored to care for your child and help you through understanding more about this misunderstood condition.Read more
Early Intervention Non-Extraction Orthodontics
The key and the primary focus is Early Intervention. We mean as early as 5-8 years of age. The best time to address moderate to severe orthodontic/dentofacial orthopedic problems is before the baby molars start becoming loose. This typically occurs around the ages of 9 for girls and 9 and a half for boys.Read more
The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates – called aligners – that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to our older patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign® system.
Palatal expanders create more space in a child's mouth by gradually widening the upper jaw. Although this may sound scary, it's really quite easy — both to do and to tolerate. That's because the upper jaw actually develops as two separate halves that don't completely fuse together until sometime after puberty. Before that happens, the two bones can gently be separated and stabilized over a period of several months. Pretty Awesome!Read more
A space maintainer is an appliance that is custom-made by a dentist or orthodontist in acrylic or metal material. It can be either removable or cemented in a child's mouth. Its purpose is to keep the space open to allow the permanent tooth to erupt and come into place. Baby teeth are important to the development of the teeth, jaw bones and muscles and help to guide permanent teeth into position when the baby teeth are lost. If a space is not maintained, then teeth can shift into the open space and orthodontic treatment may be required. Not every child who loses a baby tooth early or to dental decay requires a space maintainer; however, a professional consultation with our doctors should be conducted to determine if using a space maintainer is needed.

Sleep Apnea, Airway and TMJ Disorder
Sleep Disordered Breathing, more commonly known as Sleep Apnea can occur in children. Dr. Taiym and Dr. Kamali have a major focus on detecting early signs and symptoms of Sleep Apnea. If addressed early, children who may suffer from Sleep Apnea or airway issues, such as mouth breathing can be treated and cured in the majority of cases.
TMJ disorder can be influenced and caused by airway issues. Popping and clicking can occur at an early age. It is not normal for adults or children to have popping or clicking of their TMJ. If your child exhibits these symptoms, they are best addressed early. With early detection and treatment, TMJ disorder in children can be cured. Without early intervention popping and clicking can eventually turn into pain and decrease in normal jaw joint function.
Tooth cleaning and polishing and fluoride treatments are all part of your child's prevention program. However, there is much more. For example, we can apply sealants to protect your child from tooth decay, help you select a mouth guard to prevent sports injuries to the face and teeth, and provide early diagnosis and care of orthodontic problems. Our doctors are uniquely trained to develop a combination of office and home preventive care to insure your child a happy smile.
